About ASIO & Outreach

The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) is Australia’s national security intelligence agency. Its primary role is to identify and investigate threats to national security – including espionage, foreign interference, terrorism, and politically motivated violence – and to provide security advice to government, industry, and critical national institutions.

ASIO’s Outreach program connects organisations with a wide range of external partners across government, defence industry, academia, and the private sector. The initiative builds security capability through unclassified briefings, educational campaigns, awareness resources, and direct engagement with organisations that have a role in safeguarding Australia’s national interests.

Through Outreach, ASIO provides insights into the threat environment, practical security guidance, and opportunities for collaboration with technical specialists and intelligence officers. The program helps organisations understand and manage risks associated with personnel, information, and physical security.

Key Activities & Support

Security Briefings & Threat Awareness

ASIO Outreach delivers sector-specific security briefings and awareness sessions that help organisations recognise and respond to threats such as espionage, foreign interference, and insider activity. These briefings provide valuable insight into the evolving security environment and help leaders make informed decisions about protective measures.

Education Materials & Security Campaigns

Through tailored education resources and awareness campaigns, ASIO supports organisations in building strong security culture. Outreach materials cover topics such as identifying suspicious approaches, protecting sensitive information, and maintaining situational awareness within high-trust environments.

Technical Protective Security Support

ASIO Outreach provides technical guidance and support to help organisations strengthen their protective security arrangements. This includes advice on physical security, information assurance, and personnel security practices that align with national standards and intelligence community frameworks.

Ongoing Engagement

Outreach officers maintain active engagement with partner organisations, offering continuing updates, advice, and collaborative opportunities. This relationship ensures that participants stay informed of new threat trends and emerging good practice across the national security community.
