Recruiters & Labour Hire Firms
Recruiters and labour hire firms play a vital role in connecting Defence and Government with skilled professionals. But there’s a catch – many applicants don’t hold the security clearances required to take on those roles.
WorkSec helps recruiters and labour hire firms unlock new opportunities. We sponsor and facilitate security clearances for your applicants, transforming skilled candidates into Defence-ready professionals who can step straight into security-assessed positions.
The Opportunity: Supplying Australia’s Trusted Workforce
The Defence Industry Needs Security Cleared Talent
Australia’s Defence industry is entering a new era of growth. For recruitment and labour hire firms, this creates a major opportunity – but only if candidates hold, or can obtain, the right security clearances. Partnering with WorkSec allows you to bridge that gap and supply the Defence-ready workforce industry urgently needs.
- Workforce at the centre of Defence capability – The Defence Industry Development Strategy identifies workforce as “at the heart of industrial capability,” with Defence and industry partners needing more skilled Australians across IT, engineering, construction, project management, and cyber.
- Security clearances are non-negotiable – Personnel security is a critical enabler of Defence contracts, with every project defining security clearance requirements up front. Without security cleared candidates, recruiters can’t place talent into these roles.
- Security uplift across industry – Defence has stated that “security cannot be considered discretionary.” Candidates who are security cleared (or in the process of a security clearance) have a major advantage in a competitive market.
- Critical projects need security cleared people now – From AUKUS submarines to cyber and ISR programs, security cleared talent is essential to Sovereign Defence Industrial Priorities, including:
- Maritime and shipbuilding
- Land and air combat systems
- Cyber and information warfare
- Intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance
- Critical munitions and manufacturing
- Space
- Stronger pipeline for recruiters – By working with WorkSec, recruiters can place skilled applicants into roles once they’re security cleared, building long-term pipelines of Defence-ready professionals.
The Challenge: Placing Talent Without Clearances
Why recruiters lose great candidates
Recruiters and labour hire firms are at the frontline of filling Defence and Government roles. But even when you find the perfect candidate, security clearance requirements often block the placement.
- Critical roles remain vacant – Baseline, NV1, and NV2 security clearances are mandatory for most Defence and Government positions.
- Candidates without security clearances miss out – Skilled professionals can’t be submitted, even if they’re the right fit.
- Delays frustrate clients – Security clearance processing can take months, leaving projects under-resourced.
- Lost revenue opportunities – Without security cleared candidates, recruiters risk losing placements to competitors with existing security cleared talent.
- Complex compliance requirements – Navigating PSPF and DISP obligations isn’t a recruiter’s core business.
The result? Missed placements, frustrated clients, and talented candidates left sitting on the sidelines.

Our Streamlined
Candidate Security Clearance Process
We simplify the complex security clearance process for your candidates with clear, guided steps that ensure a smooth experience.
Sponsorship Application
Formalising the candidate’s security clearance pathway.
The first step is completing and signing a Sub-Contractor Agreement (SCA) and submitting a Sponsorship Application Form. This establishes the formal relationship required under DISP, allowing WorkSec to act as the candidate’s security clearance sponsor and providing us with the information needed to assess eligibility and suitability.
Employment Suitability Check
Confirming eligibility through risk-based screening.
We conduct mandatory checks in line with the PSPF and AS4811:2022, ensuring candidates meet the requirements for AGSVA vetting. This includes:
- Identity Verification (100-point check)
- National Criminal Record Check
- Curriculum Vitae and referee checks
- Confirmation of citizenship and background history
- Digital footprint assessment (OSINT)
- Conflict of interest declarations
Onboarding & Security Training
Building awareness and compliance from day one.
Before progressing, candidates complete key onboarding requirements including:
- Reading and acknowledging WorkSec’s security policies and plans
- Completing Trusted Insider Threat Awareness modules
- Undertaking annual Security Awareness Training
This ensures they understand their responsibilities as security clearance applicants – and later, as security clearance holders.
Vetting & Assessment
Submitting the candidate’s vetting pack via myClearance
Once sponsorship is active and the ESC is complete, WorkSec initiates the candidate’s application with AGSVA. They’ll receive access to the secure myClearance portal, where they have up to 20 business days to provide their vetting pack. This may include employment, residential, financial, travel, and referee details. AGSVA then conducts external checks, referee interviews, and where required, formal assessments before making a clearance decision.
Ongoing Governance & Maintenance
Through-life management of the candidate’s security clearance.
Security clearances are not “set and forget.” WorkSec provides governance and support for the life of each security clearance, including:
- Submitting Changes in Circumstance (COC) and Notifiable Incidents (RNI)
- Travel briefings and debriefings
- Regular compliance reporting
- Ongoing security awareness training
This ensures candidates remain eligible, suitable, and compliant – protecting both your firm and your client organisations.
