Cowork Coplay

Cowork Coplay empowers Defence and veteran partners by combining career support, community connection, and childcare to build confidence, wellbeing, and future opportunities.

WorkSec & Cowork Coplay

WorkSec is proud to support the Cowork Coplay program in Adelaide, delivered in partnership with Veterans SA and APOD. Thanks to this collaboration, the program is fully subsidised for participants in 2025.

Cowork Coplay is more than just a program – it’s a lifeline for Defence and veteran partners who too often face disrupted careers, isolation, and limited access to professional networks. By sponsoring Cowork Coplay, WorkSec helps provide a safe, supportive, and empowering environment where Defence families can thrive. This partnership reflects our commitment to building a Trusted Workforce that values not only those who serve, but also the families who stand behind them.

About Cowork Coplay

Responding to Core Challenges

Cowork Coplay was designed specifically to address three challenges that Defence and veteran partners face:

  1. Career disruption – frequent moves often lead to gaps in employment and reduced opportunities for meaningful work.
  2. Isolation – distance from family and community can cause disconnection, mental health challenges, and reduced wellbeing.
  3. Caring responsibilities – partners frequently shoulder unpredictable and high levels of caregiving, limiting time for career or personal growth.

By directly tackling these barriers, Cowork Coplay empowers participants to reclaim confidence, agency, and momentum in their professional and personal lives.

Career and Work Support

At the heart of the program is dedicated time for participants to focus on career goals—whether that’s employment, study, business ventures, or volunteering. With childcare provided on site, participants can pursue their ambitions free from distraction or guilt.

Community and Connection

The program fosters deep connections through peer learning, group discussions, and community-building activities. Participants join a supportive network of others who understand the unique challenges of Defence life, ensuring no one feels they are navigating the journey alone.

Learning and Development

Weekly facilitated sessions include tailored workshops on career planning, goal setting, wellbeing, and practical tools for navigating Defence family life. Guest mentors and experts provide insights that help participants make informed decisions about their future.

Accessible Child Care

A cornerstone of the Cowork Coplay model is built-in childcare. Creche facilities allow young children to be cared for nearby in a safe and supportive environment while participants focus on personal and professional development.

A Welcoming Program Structure

Each program runs for eight weeks, with half-day sessions each week. These sessions balance coworking time, group learning, and opportunities to connect socially over morning tea. Participants also benefit from digital resources and ongoing support through online platforms and alumni networks.

Proven Benefits

Feedback from past participants highlights the transformational impact of Cowork Coplay:

  • Renewed confidence in career pathways and life goals.
  • Improved wellbeing and mental health.
  • Increased knowledge of available support services.
  • Positive changes in family dynamics and relationships.
  • A strong sense of belonging within the Defence community.

A Community That “Gets It”

Perhaps most importantly, Cowork Coplay creates a space where Defence and veteran partners feel understood. By combining meaningful work, community connection, and family support, the program nurtures both professional growth and personal wellbeing.

Participant Voices

“The Cowork Coplay program has been life-changing. It’s given me a real sense of belonging in the Defence community. I’ve been able to connect with other spouses that just ‘get it’. So often, as Defence spouses we are made to feel like our whole life should revolve around the serving member, and little thought is given to our career development. This program flipped that and helped me focus on my future.”
Elise Knight, Adelaide

“Participating in Cowork Coplay was one of the best decisions I made when posting to Adelaide. It provided me with instant community, connection, and support in a city where I knew no one. It was essential to me being able to pursue my own goals and study in a time where I wouldn’t have otherwise had support to do so.”
Jennah Robichaud, Adelaide

“As Defence partners, we are used to our career, study and time not being valued or prioritised. Cowork Coplay switches this around and puts us first. The discussions and workshops were incredibly uplifting, with everyone encouraging one another and sharing life experiences and resources. I believe Cowork Coplay should be an ongoing program in every posting.”
Emma Murray, Adelaide
