Trojan’s Trek

Trojan’s Trek delivers peer-led, wilderness-based programs that help Australian veterans and first responders reconnect, recover, and rediscover purpose.

WorkSec & Trojan’s Trek

WorkSec is proud to sponsor Trojan’s Trek, a veteran-led charity delivering wilderness-based, peer-support programs that help current and former ADF personnel and first responders rediscover confidence, connection, and purpose.

Our support extends to the Trojan’s Trek Kokoda 2025 fundraising challenge – an opportunity to honour service, build resilience, and raise awareness for those managing the physical and psychological impacts of military and emergency-service life.

By backing Trojan’s Trek, WorkSec helps ensure that more veterans and first responders can access life-changing, evidence-informed programs that strengthen individuals, families, and communities across Australia.

About Trojan’s Trek

Mission & Purpose

Trojan’s Trek exists to enable lasting positive change for serving and ex-serving Defence members, police, and emergency responders. Its mission is simple yet profound: to help participants regain control of their lives through reflection, reconnection, and rediscovery of purpose.

The organisation focuses on post-service transition, mental-health recovery, and personal growth, helping participants move from survival to thriving.

Origins & Approach

Founded in South Australia in 2009 by veterans Graham “Moose” Dunlop and Robert “Dogs” Kearney, Trojan’s Trek has evolved from a single idea into a national program recognised for its practical, peer-led model.

Participants embark on guided wilderness expeditions – supported by experienced veteran facilitators – designed to break down barriers, build trust, and encourage open conversations away from the distractions of daily life.

The remote setting and structured reflection sessions create the conditions for genuine insight, self-awareness, and renewed optimism about the future.

Guiding Philosophies

Trojan’s Trek is grounded in several core principles that shape every expedition:

  • Exploration: encouraging self-discovery and understanding one’s values, motivations, and strengths.
  • Reflection: creating the time and space to think deeply about life, relationships, and purpose.
  • First Nations Engagement: honouring connection to Country and incorporating Indigenous perspectives that reinforce respect, grounding, and shared humanity.
  • Collaboration: working with communities, psychologists, and peer mentors to deliver programs that are compassionate, relevant, and sustainable.

Programs & Structure

The signature programs take participants on multi-day treks through remote landscapes – ranging from rugged South Australian terrain to international sites like the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea.
Each trek includes:

  • Guided discussions and workshops led by trained peers.
  • Life, Career & Education Design elements to plan meaningful next steps after service.
  • Team-building activities to restore camaraderie and mutual support.
  • After-care connections through the Trojan’s Trek alumni network and partner organisations.

Evidence & Impact

Independent research has demonstrated measurable benefits for participants, including significant reductions in stress and anxiety levels, improved self-esteem, and strengthened relationships with family and peers.

Many alumni credit Trojan’s Trek with giving them the clarity and motivation to re-engage with education, employment, and community life.

The Kokoda 2025 Challenge

The Kokoda 2025 Trek retraces the legendary 96 km wartime track through Papua New Guinea. Participants traverse rainforests, steep ridges, and historic battle sites – testing endurance and teamwork while paying tribute to Australian service history.

Funds raised through this adventure directly support Trojan’s Trek’s national programs, ensuring more veterans and first responders can access its transformative peer-support model.

Governance

Trojan’s Trek Foundation Limited is a registered Australian charity overseen by a board of veterans and professionals in health, governance, and leadership.

Operating nationally, the organisation relies on donations, sponsorships, and community fundraising to deliver its programs at no cost to participants.
